SCHOLARSHIPS

The Lima Community Foundation manages dozens of scholarships for individuals, families and organizations that want to help people further their education and improve their lives. Eligibility requirements vary with each scholarship. Some are need-based, some are based on grade, some are awarded for athletics, and some for the field of study.

How To Apply

Lima City Schools students must fill out this Student Information Profile and submit it by June 30 each year in order to be considered.
Allen County schools students must fill out this Student Information Profile and submit it by June 30 each year in order to be enrolled.

AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS

Adrian G. and Anne M. Werst Fund
The Adrian G. and Anne M. Werst Scholarship is made available to graduating high school seniors whose father or grandfather are currently, or in the past have been, a member in good standing of the 10th Masonic District under the jurisdiction of the Grand Master.

Arnena M. Hamilton Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is named in memory of Arnena Hamilton who had been a Special Education Teacher in the Lima City Schools for 25 years. Arnena cared deeply and loved her students and worked very hard to enhance their academic accomplishments.

Carol A. Johnsen Designated Fund
Carol A. Johnsen established this donor advised fund to meet her personal long term charitable giving needs.

Cheney-Welch-Carver Swim Scholarship
This scholarship award is to assist deserving members of the Lima City Schools Swim Team who have an interest in furthering their education.

Class of 1990/1991 Democracy Scholarship Fund
Honoring the memory of members of the class of 1991/92, the scholarship provides assistance in the form of grants to graduating Lima Senior High School students in Allen County, Ohio who are planning to continue their education.

Class Of 1994 Scholarship
Class of 1994 Pay It Forward Scholarship Fund aims to help a student acquire a post-secondary education at an accredited college or university. While possessing the minimum educational requirements, the student selected should demonstrate commitment.

Coach Seraph and Olga P. Pope Memorial Scholarship Fund
Friends and family established this scholarship in memory of Coach Seraph Pope. Seraph Pope, a teacher and a coach in the Lima City Schools, was a motivator and communicator who taught his students that real motivation comes from within the individual.

Dr. Raymond Olien Memorial Scholarship
Friends and family established this scholarship in memory of Dr. Raymond A. Olien. Dr. Olien directed the choirs at Lima Senior High School from 1991 through 2001. During his tenure, the concert choir earned superior ratings at both district and state.

Dr. William Hoehn Family Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by donor to honor Dr. William Hoehn, a graduate of Lima St. Johns to be given to Lima Central Catholic High School recipients based on financial needs.

Earl A. McGovern “Semper Fidelis” Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established in 1985 to honor Dr. Earl McGovern for his 20 years of service as Superintendent of Lima City Schools. At one time Dr. McGovern served in the United States Marine Corps, whose motto is Semper Fiedlis, or Always Faithful.

Edward Fox Memorial Scholarship
The Fox family established this scholarship in memory of Edward A. Fox, a 1987 senior at Lima Senior High. Ed was a vital and enthusiastic contributor to his class. Ed particularly enjoyed music and drama.

Gloria P. & Thomas R. Leech Scholarship Fund
Gloria and Dr. Thomas R. Leech (a noted plastic surgeon) established this scholarship for the exclusive purpose of furthering education in the medical field at Lima Technical College now known as Rhodes State College. This is a term endowment Fund.

James J. Countryman Fund
Dr. James J. Countryman came to Lima as President of the combined Ohio State University Lima and Lima Technical College Campus (later Rhodes State College). He was known for his vast work with public services in the community.

James M. and Ruth E. McBride Fund
The McBrides were active members of the Lima community. Doctor McBride was a highly regarded of physician and Mrs. McBride was well known for her devotion to charitable causes and civil rights.

Joe Bowers Scholarship
The Joe Bowers Scholarship is named in memory of Joe Bowers, teacher and coach in the Lima City Schools for over 40 years. Coach Bowers had a great love for the students and athletes he coached.

LCS Athletic Hall of Fame Fund
This fund provides scholarship assistance in the form of grants to graduating high school and university students in the Lima City School District who exemplify the qualities and character represented by the Lima City School’s Hall of Fame winners.

LCS Hall of Fame Scholarship – ALUMNI
This scholarship recognizes students in the Lima City School District who exemplify the qualities and character represented by the Lima City School’s Hall of Fame winners.

LCS Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund
This fund is designed to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to graduating high school and university students in the Lima City School District who exemplify the qualities and character represented by the Lima City School’s Hall of Fame.

Lima Blues Committee Scholarship Fund
In addition to annual scholarships, the stated goals of the committee are to preserve Blues history, to support Blues education in the schools, and to celebrate Blues excellence through performances.

Lima City Schools Scholarship Fund (TEACHERS)
This fund was established by the teachers, staff, and administration of the Lima City Schools to assist deserving graduating seniors who have an interest in furthering their post high school education.

Lima Senior High Alumni Memorial Scholarship
The Lima Senior Class of 1978 initiated and established the Lima Senior Alumni Memorial Scholarship by donating all monies remaining in their class treasury. Subsequent classes have continued this tradition to increase the Fund.

Lima Senior High School Class of 1956 Scholarship
In 1991, during their 35th class reunion, the Class of 1956 created this scholarship to memorialize their class as being the first to graduate from the then-new Lima Senior High.

Lima Senior High School Class of 1962 Scholarship Fund
In 2012 the members of Lima Senior High Class of 1962 established this scholarship to assist deserving students who have an interest in furthering their post high school education. It honors the memory of their classmates.

Lima Senior High School Class of 1964 Scholarship
In 1989, during their 25th class reunion, the Class of 1964 created this scholarship to memorialize their graduation from Lima Senior High. It is the desire of the class, through this scholarship, to assist deserving students who have an interest in furthering their education.

Lima Senior High School Class of 1970 Scholarship Fund
In 2000, during their 30th reunion, the members of Lima Senior High Class of 1970 established this scholarship to assist deserving students who have an interest in furthering their post high school education.

Linda Cory Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Cory family established this scholarship in memory of Linda E. Cory, a 1974 graduate of Lima Senior High School, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 1981. The scholarship award is to assist deserving female students.

Marcene Alice Cook Scholarship
Marcene Alice Cook was a dedicated science teacher for 36 years, serving 33 years in the Lima City Schools. Her friends and family created this award in her memory for a Lima Senior student wishing to pursue a career in Science Education.

Mark McDonald, MD Scholarship Fund
The award was developed by Dr. MacDonald for students: with 3.5 Cumulative GPA or higher; earned one varsity letter in any sports or participated in the Marching Band/Pep Band. Most importantly they must demonstrate qualities of integrity and citizenship.

Meredith (Sally) Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Meredith family established this scholarship in memory of Sarah A. Meredith. Sarah, better known as Sally, graduated from Lima Senior in 1976. Sally enjoyed all sports, especially swimming.

Monica Lynnette Berger Teacher Education Scholarship Fund
Monica Lynette Berger wanted to become a teacher. Her passion and desire to be an outstanding teacher guided her from her college education through her teaching profession. Monica was only 28 years old when she died; but in her life she touched many people.

MSC Southside Memorial Scholarship Fund
In 2014 the MSC Southside Memorial Scholarship was established to help a Lima Senior High student with roots in Lima’s Southside neighborhood. The Fund choose a group of students and followed them through their entire college career with scholarships.

Nancy Steiner Scholarship Fund
The Fund was established by the Park District Foundation of Allen County in memory of Nancy R. Steiner. Nancy served as a Commissioner of the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District for 21 years.

Norbert L. Barry Memorial Fund
This scholarship was created as a reward for excellence in leadership to be given annually to the Concertmaster of the Lima Area Youth Orchestra under the Lima Symphony Orchestra.

Principal/Counselor Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established in 1992 by the principal and counselors of Lima Senior High School. This fund began with a unrestricted corporate donation from the Oscar-Mayer Company.

Randy Ciminillo Memorial Fund
Randall Paul Ciminillo was born on August 9, 1954. He was the 9th of 14 children in the Ciminillo family. Randy was interested in sports and physical fitness. At Lima Central Catholic, he played basketball, football and baseball.

Romey-Penhorwood Scholarship
The Romey-Penhorwood Scholarship is named in memory of Mr. Donald R. Penhorwood and Mr. James E. Romey. Both Mr. Penhorwood and Mr. Romey, whose teaching and coaching careers each spanned well over a quarter century, were graduates of the old Lima South.

Ronald Dotson Track Scholarship
Friends and family established this scholarship in memory of Coach Ronald Dotson. Mr. Dotson was dedicated to Lima Senior and to his team. He asked the same in return from all those who ran on his teams and represented Lima Senior High School.

Ronald R. Miller Scholarship Fund
Ronald R. Miller Scholarship grew out of the success of the Cole Collection Project. The Collection (a curated fund raising event) is the work of Ron’s daughter Megan Rockey and the family.

Shawnee High School Alumni – Legacy Scholarship Fund
Established by the Shawnee Class of 1969 for their 50th class reunion, this fund aims to establish scholarships for all the alumni of the Shawnee High School. The fund’s goal is to recognize students who have excelled in school and service and intend to pursue their education at an accredited college, university, or vocational program. It focuses on four areas:  Business and Vocational; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; Arts and Humanities; and Education.

The Mabel Virginia Dillman Memorial Scholarship Fund
Mabel Virginia Dillman grew up on a farm in rural Arkansas, one of four children. Times were different in the 1920s and 30s. There was no internet, no television, no computer, but Mabel loved to read. When she wasn’t helping around the farm, she devoured books.

Tullis-Sara Tullis Memorial Scholarship Fund

Walter J. Roush Memorial Education Fund
Walter J. Roush Juvenile Justice Education Fund is making a difference in the lives of so many people. The Fund acts as a scholarship for the continuing education needs of the employees of the Allen County Juvenile Justice Center.

Wright Family Athletic Scholarship Fund
The Wright family established this scholarship in memory of Carl E. Wright. Carl Wright was the first of three generations to attend the Lima City schools. Carl was an excellent athlete at South High School and went on to become a successful businessman.

Wright Family Fine and Performing Arts Scholarship Fund
The Wright family established this scholarship in memory of Carl E. Wright. Carl Wright was the first of three generations to attend the Lima City schools. Carl was an excellent athlete at South High School and went on to become a successful businessman.
